Lifestyle management includes diabetes self-management education and support (DSME and DSMS), balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, weight management, stress reduction, and monitoring blood sugar levels. Critical life stages such as diagnosis, annual check-ups, new health complications, and transitions in care require tailored support and adjustments.

Children and adolescents with diabetes need at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily, including muscle and bone-strengthening exercises several times a week. Adults should aim for at least 150 minutes per week of moderate or vigorous exercise, complemented by resistance training. Reducing sedentary time by interrupting prolonged sitting every 30 minutes benefits especially those with type 2 diabetes. Nutritional strategies focus on consistent carbohydrate intake, nutrient timing, and balanced meals to maintain stable blood sugar levels. By integrating these lifestyle habits throughout the various stages of life, people with diabetes can lead active, healthy lives with reduced risk of complications and better disease outcomes.
